Conservation
In today’s dynamic energy markets, erratic and volatile pricing are a fact of life which significantly impact your operating costs and profitability. Today’s fuel prices are at record levels not envisioned by architects and engineers that designed buildings 10 or more years ago.

Unfortunately, we believe that fuel prices, at least in the foreseeable future, will continue to increase therefore making it imperative that businesses find additional methods to reduce their energy expenses.

As a direct result of these circumstances, Starco Solutions has developed an energy audit program to complement its core services - i.e., cost control, audit, rate optimization, procurement, on-line data management and market research.

As part of our energy audit program, Starco Solutions will undertake the following tasks:

Obtain basic building information - determine audit goals, review planned and historical building modifications, prepare facility equipment list, etc.

Review facility electrical distribution system - identify primary and secondary distribution voltages, check transformer ratings and maintenance procedures, review distribution panel and branch circuits, check log books for equipment outages or load additions or reductions, etc.

Review facility HVAC systems -- identify type of heating and cooling systems, examine current maintenance procedures, examine cooling towers, circulating pumps and fans, investigate the use of VAV boxes, identify location of vent and fresh air makeup for excessive or reduced level of activity, etc.

Review implemented energy cost reduction programs -- review any past energy cost reduction programs to insure proper operation and to avoid duplication of effort.

In addition to the above, our energy audit will generally include the review and verification of a facility’s conditioned space, total square area, exterior wall area, energy usage data and trends, tenant information (if applicable), energy management systems, lighting, plug load, and heating and cooling degree days, etc.

Upon completion of our energy audit, Starco Solutions will provide you with a detailed report of its findings and recommendations. We will prioritize low cost/no cost projects and then move on to other higher cost projects. During the process Starco Solutions will also investigate available rebates or options that can reduce or eliminate the cost of an energy cost reduction project.

Lighting
There is strong motivation pushing lighting fixture manufacturers toward improving product efficiency. Conversely, many consumers demand low price products which generally waste electricity and profits are driven down by fierce competition on commodity goods. This is not unique to the lighting industry. Appliance manufacturers face the same pressures. Low cost refrigerators, hot water heaters and dishwashers consume more energy than the slower selling premium offerings. This is where our government gets involved.

Conflicting with the consumer demand for low price products is legislation mandating higher efficiency which means higher quality and consequently increased cost. Some of the legislation affecting the lighting industry is aimed at reducing consumption by restricting the amount of lighting wattage per square foot allowed on construction projects. Federal fixture efficiency standards for procurement are established for specific fixture types used on Government construction. Other legislation attempts to eliminate wasted light by requiring fixtures designed to ìcut offî the light that would be projected upward and optically redirect more downward. Laws currently exist that limit how many lumens (a measurement of the light produced by a lamp) can be allowed per acre for exterior lighting. Controls that save energy such as occupancy sensors and dimming are encouraged or
necessary for new jobs. Design techniques such as ìDaylightingî and other methods of incorporating sunlight help to reduce energy. Architects, Engineers and lighting specifiers will be forced to design with efficient lighting fixtures as the following energy standards and legislation take effect.

Renewable Energy Systems

Photovoltaic Energy (Solar Panel System)
Starco Solutions makes it easy to protect yourself from rising electricity rates and make a difference for the environment by helping you use solar power to generate clean electricity for your home. By using solar power you will decrease Your Harmful Environmental Impact by generating your own clean electricity from the sun helps avoid the polluting emissions associated with fossil fuel-generated electricity (such as coal, oil, and natural gas). You will also save Money, lower your electric bills or eliminate them entirely by generating your own power using solar panels and increase Your Home’s Value up to $20,000 for every $1,000 in annual utility savings.

Federal tax credits and local and state rebates (in some areas) can pay for up to 60% of your system’s cost. Solar Electric Systems are Simple, Durable, and Long Lasting. Since a solar electric system is a valuable home improvement and a smart investment in the future, we’ve designed our systems to combine three critical features: simplicity, durability, and longevity. They are also simple to Own and Operate – Our fully automated solar electric systems have no moving parts and require almost no maintenance. And since they integrate seamlessly with existing electrical and mechanical systems, once your system is installed all you have to do is flip a switch to start generating electricity. Inclement weather is no problem for our solar panels, which can withstand temperature extremes, 1” hail, and 150 mph winds.

At Starco Solutions, we believe it should be easy for you to get a solar electric system. That’s why we’ve developed a convenient process that takes you from start to finish in 3 simple steps.

1. Site Evaluation – Our experts will conduct a free, comprehensive site evaluation to help determine if a solar electric system is right for you.
2. Design and Engineering – Our engineers will custom design the highest quality, most aesthetically pleasing solar electric system possible that meets your budget and electricity production goals.
3. Installation – Our expert installers and project managers will ensure your installation meets our rigid standards by handling every aspect, including permit documentation and interconnection with your electricity provider.

As engineers and environmentalists with over 100 years of collective experience in the solar industry, we’re passionate about designing the best solar electric systems possible. Our designers, installers, and procurement teams have the most expertise in the business, so you can be confident you’ll have the best possible system. We integrate the latest technologies to design systems that meet your power goals. We work with the best manufacturers to build systems that meet your budget. We use the highest-quality components to give your system the longest lifespan possible.

Wind Energy
We have been harnessing the wind's energy for hundreds of years. From old Holland to farms in the United States, windmills have been used for pumping water or grinding grain. Today, the windmill's modern equivalent—a wind turbine—can use the wind's energy to generate electricity.

Wind turbines, like windmills, are mounted on a tower to capture the most energy. At 100 feet (30 meters) or more aboveground, they can take advantage of the faster and less turbulent wind. Turbines catch the wind's energy with their propeller-like blades. Usually, two or three blades are mounted on a shaft to form a rotor.

A blade acts much like an airplane wing. When the wind blows, a pocket of low-pressure air forms on the downwind side of the blade. The low-pressure air pocket then pulls the blade toward it, causing the rotor to turn. This is called lift. The force of the lift is actually much stronger than the wind's force against the front side of the blade, which is called drag. The combination of lift and drag causes the rotor to spin like a propeller, and the turning shaft spins a generator to make electricity.

Wind turbines can be used as stand-alone applications, or they can be connected to a utility power grid or even combined with a photovoltaic (solar cell) system. For utility-scale sources of wind energy, a large number of wind turbines are usually built close together to form a wind plant. Several electricity providers today use wind plants to supply power to their customers.

Small wind systems also have potential as distributed energy resources. Distributed energy resources refer to a variety of small, modular power-generating technologies that can be combined to improve the operation of the electricity delivery system.
